Once Upon A Time
Founded in 1974, United Friends Group Homes (UFGH) emerged from a commitment by a group of parents that their children should have a home in the community.
United Friends Group Homes was incorporated as a Washington nonprofit corporation on January 23, 1974 and was granted exempt status for charitable purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code on October 1, 1974. Our 1st home, Crown Hill Group Home was opened in 1978. In 1979, the Articles of Incorporation were amended granting the corporate officers authority to secure HUD financing for Beverly Park Group Home, which opened in 1980.
Lawton Heights Group Home was incorporated as a Washington nonprofit corporation in 1984 and was granted exempt status for charitable purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code on July 26, 1984. HUD required a separate corporation in order to secure financing for this group home.
The corporate name Lawton Heights Group Home reflects the original Magnolia site for the project. Circumstances would not permit building a home in Magnolia so the project was moved to West Seattle. Unfortunately, HUD would not permit a name change after moving the project, thereby creating some minor confusion between the corporate name and the project name which became Lincoln Park Group Home.
When fully occupied, the three homes serve a total of twenty-two residents who, as our mission statement says, are empowered to lead quality lives and experience the best of home, health, family and community.
